birds hand drawn by Maureen
Maureen began every meeting with a thick pencil and a pile of paper. Talking of print, her hands started sketching crosses over the paper. The wilder the movements became the more they began to resemble birds in flight. Before long, a whole flock. These drawings were wrapped up and sent to India, where they were carved into wooden blocks and printed by hand onto cloth.
Colours for this collection are inspired by the work of artist Jose Campos. Maureen’s pajaro print, Spanish for bird, was drawn during time spent with Jose, his paints, photographs, scraps of text and illustrations. Born in La Paz, El Salvador, his autobiographical paintings are a movement of colour and life.
